Favourite Book Covers I

Hello! Today I thought I’d do a post about some of my favourite book covers. However, there are many fabulous book covers so I shall be doing this in parts over the next couple of days/weeks. These parts are not organised in any way and I’m just literally going to be showing you the covers and telling you why I love them so much. This list is going to include books I’ve loved, books I’ve disliked and books I haven’t even read yet but I plan on reading. Let’s get started.

Legend Series by Marie Lu

legend series

Look at how stunning those covers are! I love the fact that they don’t have too much on them but instead focus on one big thing that actually relates to the story! However, these don’t look as pretty on my bookshelf because I have the original Legend cover which isn’t sold anymore, except for in Spanish so of course my series does not match at all. Sigh. Cover changes suck but I have to admit these new covers are so gorgeous, I can’t even tell you how much I enjoy these covers(especially Champion).

Covenant Series by Jennifer L Armentrout

covenant series

Aren’t they absolutely stunning? These covers are simplisitic with no people on them at all(which is a big deal considering the covers to her Lux series) but also the fact that each one has different colour just makes me love them anymore. The new UK covers are also similar to this but slightly different however I love both. I don’t know why I love these so much but I do. ( check out my whole series review if you’re intrigued by the covers)

Gone series by Michael Grant

Here are the UK and US covers of this series. Can you tell which ones I like? The simplicity of the UK covers just make it look so much more dramatic than the US covers which are just ridiculously cheesy. I own the first two books in this series but I haven’t bought the others because they were originally sold with coloured pages(different colours for each book, another technique I love in a book design) however now they’ve stopped doing it and I can’t have two with coloured pages and the rest without!

Rites of Passage by Joy N. Hensley

rites of passage

This cover, I’m not sure why I like. However I do really enjoy it because it is again simplistic. Plain black background with a dog tag on it. I’m not sure what else to say about except for the fact that I love it and it represents the book amazingly. ( Also if you’re interested check out my review of this book).

Not A Drop To Drink duology by Mindy McGinnis

in-a-handful-of-dust

These covers are literally book porn. I could stare at them for hours because that is just how beautiful they are. I  love how they follow a trend in the series and how they are set over a beautiful landscape, which really represents the book. The complete rawness of the covers represent the books exactly and I love that about it.( Check out my review of the first book here and my review of the second book here).

Let the Sky Fall by Shannon Messenger

let the sky fall

How can one not love these covers? Yes I would prefer them much more if there wasn’t anybody on them or even if they looked less awkward but I love them none the less. I don’t know what this series is about, all I know is that they have beautiful covers and I want to own them.

Okay that was the first 6 of my favourite covers. In total, I have 48 so I was thinking of splitting this into 8 different posts that I will post over the next couple of weeks because then they won’t be too long and it will hopefully give me something to post every week. Thanks for reading and see you next time.

Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout

For the last two or three weeks, I have been reading the Covenant series by Jennifer L Armentrout. I got the first book, Half Blood, for review and I was meant to review it but I almost immediately starting reading Pure, the second book in the series. I started binge-reading the series and I couldn’t remember what happened in which book so I thought I’d just do a series review. Now my overall opinion of this series is that it is a good solid 4 star series. It wasn’t the best series in the world and it was quite predictable some times but I did keep reading it because I just wanted to know what happened. Now let’s talk about some of the main characters.

Alex is the protagonist and she is very much like Rose from Vampire Academy. Actually, the first book in this series was basically almost an exact copy of the first Vampire Academy book which made me like it a lot less but as the series progressed, it started becoming its own thing. Anyway back to Alex. I did really enjoy her as a character because she was strong and kick ass. However, she did make so many stupid decisions and I was just facepalming a lot of the time because she just did stupid things. She also forcused a lot on Aiden when she should have really been paying attention to the horrible situations she was in.

Every time she thought about Aiden in the middle of a fight,
Every time she thought about Aiden in the middle of a fight,

Aiden was quite a swoon worthy main character. At first I didn’t like him because he was quite like Dimitri from Vampire Academy. However, as the series went on, I started falling slightly in love with him. He isn’t one of my favourite fictional crushes but I did like him quite a lot. He kicked ass. Whenever she described him when he was fighting, I was just shocked at how perfectly he fought. I loved him as a character but one thing I didn’t like was the fact that every time him and Alex were together, they were constantly making out. Like seriously, could they not just spend some time just talking and not having sex?

Every time they were making out.
Every time they were making out.

The other side characters were quite interesting. I loved Seth as a character which you might not agree with if you read the series but I loved him. I also loved Caleb, Olivia, Deacon and Luke as well as all the other characters whose names I’m just blanking on. They all brought a different thing to the series and I loved them all.

The plot line of the whole series was actually quite interesting and action packed. I didn’t enjoy the first one as much but the rest of the series was just unpredictable(most of the time). I didn’t want to stop reading because I just wanted to know what happened. I do recommend this series if you are looking for something fun to read because it is just basically a series that is fun and not much else(in my opinion).

I would give the overall series 4 out of 5 stars and each book also got 4 out of 5 stars from me as well. I will be picking up Jennifer L Armentrout’s lux series because her writing was really addictive.

Plot: 80%. It was predictable at times but I did really enjoy it.

Covers: 90%. The new UK covers are so stunning and I want to own them all.

Protagonist: 75%. She was kick ass but sometimes so annoying.

Characters: 85%. They were all generally good supporting characters.

Love story85%. It was great but they made out too much!

Writing: 80%. It was addictive but it wasn’t very beautiful

Pacing: 85%. I was completely hooked the whole way!

Overall: 82. 86%.

Thanks for reading this review and I’ll tell you soon.

September Wrap Up

So, it’s the end of September  and I feel really bad because this month I just got caught up in school work and I have been busy during the weekends. I just haven’t been making sure that I have time to blog so I’m sorry I apologise. I’m currently in the middle of some posts which I’m probably going to schedule just so that I upload some posts in October. As well as posting less, I’ve also been reading less. This month, I’ve read 6 books but one of them was very long so don’t judge  me. Next month, hopefully I’ll have more of a schedule so I’ll be reading more and posting more hopefully. Now let’s talk about the books  I actually read this month.

The first book I read this month was of course Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas. Now I must say this book took over a week for me to read because I just couldn’t find myself to just fall straight back into the world because it has been almost a year since I read Crown of Midnight but after I got past the first 100 or so pages, I fell into the book and I just loved it so much. The reason I haven’t written a review of it is because it is the third book in a series and I can’t write a review of it without talking about what actually happened in it. This is my favourite book in the trilogy because it was so fabulous. I can’t even tell you why I loved it so much because I loved everything about it and there was nothing I didn’t like. There were new characters in this book and I loved them all. BUT THAT ENDING! The ending just made really excited for the next one because oh dear lord what even happened?  I need to know what happens next. Seriously Sarah J Maas? After the cliffhanger at the end of Crown of Midnight, I thought Heir of Fire wouldn’t have a cliffhangery ending but it did! And it was an even worse ending and I just need to know what happens next! Obviously I ended up giving it 5 out of 5 stars.

The next book I read was A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall. This was a really cute fast paced contemporary romance that I read in less than 24 hours. I really needed to read this after that ending to Heir of Fire and this book was just everything I needed. It was a cute romance that was just told in 14 different points of view so it wasn’t just your ordinary romance story. I wrote a whole review on this book so definitely go check that out if you’re interested. I gave this book 5 out of 5 stars because it was fabulous.

The next book I read was The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey. I was so excited for this book because I read The Fifth Wave the week it was released and I really loved it so I had really high expectations for this book. However it was slightly disappointing. The first half of the book was so slow and it took me so long to read it. However the second half was really action packed and I loved the second half. However, the second half wasn’t about Cassie or Evan. It focused on Ringer and I did love her a lot more in this book. However I was expecting more Evan Walker in the book and that really depressed me. I couldn’t write a review of this book because I just don’t know what I’d say.  I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars because the second half just bumped it up higher.

The next book I read was another book I read in just over 24 hours and that was Rites of Passage by Joy N Hensley. I had been so excited for this book for a couple of months now because it just sounded so fabulous and unique. So when I did finally get around to reading it, I just fell in love with it so much! I loved it so much and I somehow managed to put my opinions about it into a review so click here if you want to watch it. But honestly, this book is so unique and different and everyone really needs to read this book because it teaches you about so much.

The next book I read was Half Blood by Jennifer L Armentrout. Now I shall be writing a review of this very soon because I got it for review from Bookbridgr. But let me just say a few things. Throughout this whole book , I was convinced that I was reading Vampire Academy with the names changed. These two books are really similar but I did still enjoy Half Blood, especially towards the end. I am currently reading Pure, the second book in this series and I’m loving it a lot more. I did give this book 4 out of 5 stars but look at for a review coming out soon hopefully!

The last book I read this month was another book that I read in less than 24 hours and that was Hung Up by Kristen Tracy. I wanted a quick light-hearted contemporary that I would just fly through really quickly so I picked up this one. I did fly through it quickly because it is told entirely in phone calls but I just didn’t like it at all. The two main characters were really annoying and I just found the whole situation completely unbelievable. Some of the conversations they had weren’t really appropriate conversations for two people that had actually never met before. I ended up giving this book 2 out of 5 stars.

Monthly Wrap Up:

Books at each star rating:

1 star: 0 books

2 stars: 1 book

3 stars: 0 books

4 stars:2 books

5 stars: 3 books

Favourite book of the month:  Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas

I didn’t have a bad reading month but I could have read more and hopefully I will in October! I’ll see you guys soon with another post.

August Book Haul

So it’s the end of August which means it’s book haul time. This is again another scheduled post since I shall be on holiday at the end of August but I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting any more books. This month I bought 4 books and got 4 from bookbridgr for review. Let’s get started.

At the start of the month, I finally recieved the three books from bookbridgr that I had requested in early July but took a while to come. The first one was Roomies by Sara Zarr and Tara Altebrando. I’ve already read this book and I really enjoyed it so massive thanks to bookbridgr and Hodder for sending this book to me. Click here for my spoiler free review. I recommend this book if you like contemporary books that focus more on friendship rather than relationships. The other two books I got from bookbridgr are both by Jennifer L. Armentrout who is a big author in the blogging and booktubing community but I have never seen her books in shops in the UK before. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that they are only now starting to sell some of her books in the UK. The first one I got was Cursed and I’ve never heard anyone talk about this one before. However the synopsis really intrigued me and I’ve already read it so click here to check out my spoiler free review. The last book I got from bookbridgr was Half Blood. I’ve heard quite a few people talk about this series before but it’s not her most well known series but it sounded interested so that’s why I requested and I shall be reading it soon hopefully. I also received a book from bookbridgr that I only recently requested and that was Day 21 by Kass Morgan. This is the sequel to the 100 which has a TV show that just recently aired in the UK. I’m excited to read these and I will probably read both of them back to back.

The final four books I bought from Waterstones, which is just the best shop ever. Most of their books are buy one get one half price so when I set out to buy only one book, I generally always come back with two. The first book I bought was Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. I have, of course, already read this book. I read it back in December but I love this books so much that I just needed to own them all so I finally bought a physical copy. The book that I bought along with that was Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo. I finally bought the book that everybody raves about and I shall definitely be reading within the next month, for sure. I made sure that I bought the new pretty UK purple cover because it’s just stunning. I then went to buy Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins on it’s release day to complete my Stephanie Perkins collection. I’ve already read and loved this book. If you want to know more about my opinions on it, click here for my review. The final book that I bought alongside Isla was Amy and Roger’s Epic Detour by Morgan Matson. I’ve been wanting to read this book for over a year but I really disliked the UK original cover but they recently re-released it in the UK with the US cover so I bought it and read it and I was slightly disappointed but click here if you want to see my opinions on the book as a whole.

So that’s all the books I bought this month. My mum thinks I have a book buying problem so my book buying is going to be basically non-existent for the next few months.
