This is one of my absolute favourite tags to do every year. I love getting to a mid year check in on my reading. It’s definitely going be hard to narrow it down this year as I’ve already read 111 books in the first half of this year which is absolutely crazy but I’ve tried to narrow it down.
Best book of the year so far
I have read a lot of amazing books so far this year but I have to give this title to Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. I was super late to the game with this series but I’m so glad that I finally read it because it truly is the most amazing duology. I’m obsessed with it.
Best sequel you’ve read so far
This obviously had to go to Song of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury. I love this duology with my whole heart and this was such a wonderful conclusion to the series.
New release you haven’t read yet but you want to
I’ve actually been really good with new releases this year! I’ve kept up with all of my most anticipated releases. The only two that I would like to read soon are Birthday by Meredith Russo and This Time Will Be Different by Misa Sugiura.
Most anticipated release of the rest of the year
I have a lot of anticipated releases for the rest of this year. I think my list is over 20 books at the moment which is insane. The most anticipated of them are Wayward Son by Rainbow Rowell (because duh), Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks, Queen of Nothing by Holly Black and then Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo.
Sadly I’ve quite a lot. Again, but Better is probably my least favourite book of the year and I was expecting to love it. Aurora Rising was good but not as great as I hoped. Red, White and Royal Blue did not live up to the hype and Panther by David Owen was definitely the most disappointing book that I’ve owned for years.
This would probably have to be Allegedly by Tiffany D Jackson. I’ve had this book on my TBR for years but I never had the desire to read it. I picked it up and became obsessed with it quite quickly. It definitely stuck in my head.
Favourite new author (debut or new to you)
That has to be Leigh Bardugo. Everyone has been obsessed with her for years but my obsession has only just started. I love her worldbuilding and her characters are so wonderful.
Newest fictional crush
I mean, is there any other acceptable answer other than Kaz Brekker? What a guy.
New favourite character
I definitely would give this title to Evelyn Hugo. She was so intriguing to read about and I became obsessed with her story.
Book that made you cry
No book has ever made me cry. Clockwork Princess is the closest I’ve ever been to crying (which I did re-read this year) but I still didn’t cry because I’m basically heartless.
Book that made you happy
The Paper and Hearts Society by Lucy Powrie had me smiling the entire time I was reading it. This book is so entirely full of joy (as well as some sad moments!) and I adored it.
Favourite book to film adaptation of the year
This has not really been the year for book to film adaptations. I’ve only seen two, Dumplin and Before I Fall, both of which came out before this year. Out of the two, Dumplin was definitely the best.
Favourite review you’ve written so far this year
I don’t really have a favourite review! I’m just so happy whenever I write one and publish it because I hardly ever write reviews.
Most beautiful book of the year
These would have to be collector editions I have. One would be the Waterstones exclusive edition of Song of Sorrow by Melinda Salisbury with sprayed edges which I adored and the other would be the UK collector’s edition of Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo which is stunning.
Books you need to read by the end of the year
Honestly, for the rest of this year, I just want to focus on getting my physical TBR down drastically. I’m fed up of owning so many books that I haven’t read and I need to read more of them.
That was my mid year book freakout tag! What has been your favourite book of the year so far? Let me know down below.
