So, one day I was just looking at my physical TBR the other day and it started overwhelming me with just how many books I have that I have not read yet. There are actually quite a few books on my TBR that I’m not sure if I actually want to read. So I decided to do the Try A Chapter tag with some of them. I actually had quite a few so I’ve split them into three categories: review copies, fantasy and contemporary. This week’s tag is my review copies. These are all books I have received in the past for review but never actually got around to but I’m not sure if I actually want to read them so let’s get into trying them out.
Show Stopper by Hayley Barker
I wasn’t sure how much to read of this because it doesn’t seem to be split into chapters, it’s simply just split between the two points of view. I read one of each point of view just so that I could get a feel of it but it was only around 4 pages in total so I didn’t read a lot of the book. Overall, this book made me intrigued. I haven’t read a book set in a circus before (I haven’t read Caraval or The Night Circus even though everyone else seems to have read them) so I didn’t know what to expect. I think I will hold onto this book, but I don’t see myself reading it anytime soon.
Who Runs the World? by Virginia Bergin
This book sounds like it would be so good. But after reading the first chapter, I don’t think I’m going to hold onto it anymore. I really do not like the writing style of this book, which is to be expected as I DNFed her previous novel, The Rain. Whilst I think this book could be good, it’s not the book for me.
Seed by Lisa Heathfield
This is a book that I was pretty sure I was going to get rid of but after reading the first chapter, I know that I have to keep it. It opens with the protagonist having a period for the first time and being confused. The first chapter left me really intrigued to find out what happens next and discover more about the Cult that our protagonist lives in.
Cell 7 by Kerry Drewery
For this book, I read the prologue as well as the first chapter. I found this chapter quite interesting and I would like to know what happens next. It didn’t excite me as much as I would have liked it to so I don’t know when I will read it but I’m going to keep a hold of it for now.
Allegedly by Tiffany D Jackson
This was the longest chapter of the five and it was definitely the best. I’m already hooked into it and I want to know more about what happened with the murder of the baby. I kinda want to read this book soon after reading that first chapter…
So those are the first five books that I tried the first chapter of to see if they were worth keeping. I think this is a really good idea and I should really start reading first chapters more often. Have you ever done this? Let me know down below.
