Summer 2019 TBR

My second of uni has officially ended (well lectures at least but my final assignment is due on the 16th May) and I plan on reading a lot this summer. I’m hoping to read a lot of books that I already own but there are number of books releasing this summer that I am excited about. So I thought I would let you know today what books I hope to read this summer. These are very ambitious plans but my reading game has been great this year so it might happen. These books are on top of my #RamadanReadathon TBR which I have already posted in a separate blog post so go check that out to see other books that I am reading.

New Releases:

There are a lot of new releases that I am looking forward to this summer and it’s kinda crazy to see how many there are. These are all of the ones on my list though I might not get to all of them.

Again But Better by Christine Riccio

Like most of the book community, I have been excited to read this book since she announced it. I am slightly hesitant but it sounds like such a fun read and I know I will fly through it in a day. – May 7

Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman, Jay Kristoff

I fell in love with the Illuminae trilogy so of course, I am looking forward to their new collaboration. I’m not a huge sci-fi fan but whenever they do sci-fi, it works for me. – May 7

Somewhere Only We Know by Maurene Goo

This is a potential summer read. It sounds like such a cute divese YA romance which are usually some of my favourite reads so I think it will be a lot of fun. – May 7

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren have been very hit and miss for me in the past but I’ve heard so much praise for their new release that I know I need to pick it up as soon as it comes out. – May 14

Practically Ever After by Isabel Bandeira

I loved both of the previous installments in this Ever After series (especially Bookishly Ever After, the first book) that I am so excited for the third installment. – May 21

Ghosts of the Shadow Market by Cassandra Clare

I have actually already read all of the previously released novellas in this bind up but the physical edition contains two extra novellas which I cannot wait for. I am also doing a big Shadowhunter re-read as well this summer on top of all of these TBR books that I will probably end up re-reading all of these novellas. – June 4

The Right Swipe by Alisha Rai

I’ve heard amazing things about this adult romance book that I knew I had to add it to my TBR immediately. – July 2

Crossfire by Malorie Blackman

I binge-read the Noughts and Crosses series at the end of last year so I am obviously highly anticipating this continuation. – July 4

Maybe This Time by Kasie West

Kasie West is an auto-read author for me. I don’t even know what this book is about, all I know is that I need to read it ASAP. – July 9

Heartstopper Vol 2 by Alice Oseman

I love Alice Oseman’s books and I especially adored Heartstopper Vol 1 last year and I have been eagerly anticipating this sequel. – July 11

The Wedding Party by Jasmine Guillory

I quite enjoyed The Wedding Date earlier this year and this is the companion novel that I am sure will be a lot of fun. – July 16

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell and Faith Erin Hicks

I am a sucker for anything Rainbow Rowell puts her name on and I’m excited to see what this graphic novel is like. – August 27

YALC TBR:

This is a very ambitious list but it consists of all of the books that I have on my physical TBR by authors who are going to be at YALC. I don’t think I will get through all of them but I want to get through quite a few of them before YALC at the end of July.

Chasing The Stars by Malorie Blackman

I love Malorie Blackman’s books but I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t read a majority of them. I have owned this book since it came out but I still haven’t read it because I’m terrible but I really want to read it before meeting her again.

Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh

Renee Ahdieh is one of the big name American authors coming but I have never read any of her books. I’ve been meaning to read The Wrath and the Dawn but I don’t own it yet. However, I do own Flame in the Mist so I would like to read that before YALC just in case I fall in love with it and regret not meeting her.

Panther by David Owen

This is such a short book that I’ve had on my TBR for so long and I’m ashamed to have not read it. I love David Owen’s twitter account but I’ve never read any of his books even though I think I would love them.

The Girl of Ink and Stars by Kiran Millwood Hargrave

This is another book I have owned for years and that I am ashamed to have not read. I have met Kiran a few times before and she’s such a nice person so I really just need to get around to it and read her book.

Run Riot by Nikesh Shukla

I have been meaning to read this book since it released last year and I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

Oh My Gods by Alexandra Sheppard

This is a fairly recent book that I only got in February so I’m not as concerned that I haven’t read it yet. However, Alexandra was so nice at the Scholastic event that I saw her at so I would really like to read her book and support her.

All of The Above by Juno Dawson

I am ashamed to admit that I’ve never read a Juno Dawson book (aside from her World Book Day short, Spot the Difference) and I’ve owned this book for a while so I don’t know why I haven’t read it yet.

How Do You Like Me Now? by Holly Bourne

I have read almost all of Holly Bourne’s books but this is one of the 2 books of hers that I have left. I don’t own Soulmates which is the other book of hers that I haven’t read but I would like to read How Do You Like Me Now? before YALC at least.

Seed by Lisa Heathfield

This book was all everyone was raving about in the UKYA community like 4 years ago and I never got around to it. I’ve come so close to unhauling it a few times but I’m determined to give it a try.

The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

This is another book that I have come close to unhauling a number of times because I don’t think I’ll like it but I want to read at least 100 pages before I decide to get rid of it so trying to read it before YALC might encourage that.

Physical TBR books:

On top of all of those books, these are some of the books on my physical TBR that I really hope to get to this summer as well.

An Author’s Odyssey and Worlds Collide by Chris Colfer

I hate having incomplete series on my TBR so I really need to get around and read the 5th and 6th books in this series to complete it. It’s also a really fun series so I don’t know why I haven’t finished it yet.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu

I am a massive Marie Lu fan and I can’t believe I have a whole series on my TBR by her that I haven’t read yet.

A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood

This sounds like such a fun read and I’m mad at myself for not reading it when I got a copy for review last year.

So those are all of the books on my TBR for the summer. It seems like a lot but I’ve been averaging around 20 books a month this year so it’s definitely doable if I keep up the pace. Have you read any of these books? Let me know down below.

  1. Ooooh I had no idea that Malorie Blackman was writing another book in the Noughts and Crosses series?! I love those books so much, even if they are utterly devastating. I am determined to meet her at YALC this year! Chasing the Stars is on my TBR too, I’ve had it on my shelf for ages – the cover is so pretty! Hope you love All of the Above, I really enjoyed that one – I love Juno Dawson! xxx
