Recent Reads #2

I have stopped doing monthly wrap ups so I’ve introduced this Recent Reads series so I can still discuss any books that I’m in the mood to talk about. Today, I’m here with 3 new book that I need to scream about to the world (all books that I loved!).

Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton

I am extremely late to this bandwagon but in early February, I binge-read the whole trilogy and I became very quickly obsessed. I don’t know why I waited so long to read this series but I’m also glad that I waited because I love being able to binge-read series. I love that feeling that you get when you can’t stop reading a world and I love being able to read the whole arc in one go. Amani was a fantastic main character to follow but what I really loved about this series was the world. It was such an amazing, well developed fantasy world. It was incredibly addictive and I’m sad that it’s over.

I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

Alice Oseman is one of my favourite authors so when I received her upcoming novel, I picked it up immediately and got addicted to it. The best thing about this novel was the characters. Following a hijabi fangirl and a boyband member who struggles with anxiety was so damn interesting. I can’t remember the last time I read a book that has this much representation. Obviously I can’t speak for all of the rep, but I felt that the Muslim rep was done amazingly. I loved the fact that we got to see the impacts of fandom on both the fangirls and on the people who are being idolised and how this can impact them both. I highly recommend you all look out for this when it comes out in May.

Obsidio by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

Most of the YA community was eagerly anticipating this conclusion to the Illuminae series and I definitely feel like it didn’t disappoint. In true Illuminae style, it was addictive, shocking and so well developed. Seeing all the characters from all 3 books come together was so exciting. I liked getting to see what was happening on 2 different parts of the world and getting to witness how these two coincide. My only issue was the ending. I feel like it wasn’t developed enough and I just wanted to know more about what happened at the end and what happened after the ending of the series but it was still an amazing conclusion to an amazing series.

So those are 3 books that I’ve read recently that I wanted to share my opinion on. Have you read any of these? Let me know your thoughts down below.
